Are you Sabotaging Your Dance (and your life) with Perfectionism?

Can you not get out on the dance floor even thought you've taken some lessons? Do you not want other people watching you dance? Do you agonize over trying to get all the moves perfect and tell yourself the reason you can't go out to dance is because, "I'm just not ready yet"? You might be shy - or you might be a perfectionist.

As a perfectionist, it was difficult for me to learn to dance. It's better now, but in the beginning, it was pure hell. And it is still difficult if I am learning a new dance or an advanced move (both in tango and blues dance).

How to get over it and get out dancing?

Well, one thing to remember is that no one actually is perfect. As a perfectionist, that can be hard to swallow. Brene Brown calls perfectionism the "20-ton shield."

Like her, I'm a recovering perfectionist. I fight the battle day by day. Here's some more info about perfectionism, the 20-ton shield. I hope you find it helpful.

Hope to see you out dancing,
Grace (& Kevin)
