As we enter the season in Colorado where summer memories and the landscape begin their descent into hibernation, I notice that Grace and I tend to focus our planning around our (adult) children and our close sphere of friendships for the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. We also begin to think about staying warm, and know that we are less likely to travel to events due to cold weather and slick roads.
For 2018, we are considering a Blues Dance Immersion event sometime towards the beginning of spring. This would be a one-time Saturday event where the new dancer and experienced dancer can learn simple lead-follow blues dance in three separate one-hour classes, followed by an evening dance with a DJ’d playlist of blues and alternative (fusion) music.
The event would offer the following:
1. intro to lead/follow blues dance
2. dynamic turns and blues stylization
3. blues/fusion introduction
4. DJ’d music for dancing
The Blues Dance Immersion would take place in Boulder, and the lessons would be designed to quickly and easily prepare the dancer for the 2018 live music and social dance scene in Colorado.
As always, it is our goal to teach lessons that are fun, low impact, affordable, and easy to pick up. Your comments and suggestions for blues events and lessons for 2018 are welcome. Let us know what you want!
Check out this NYTimes article sent to us by Dennis Slone. It reports on a study on how learning while moving may be a potent way to slow the effects of aging, strengthening both the body and the mind at the same time. One study compared the neurological effects of dancing with those of walking and other activities, and found that dancing may be the best of those three activities for the brain.
Hope to see you November 10th at the Fort Collins' Boot Grill for blues music and dancing!
