When Your Addiction to Dance is a Bad Thing.

Are you addicted to dance? We joke about this idea and think it's funny. But what if you really are addicted to dance and it's beginning to be not so funny?

What if you can't say no when asked to dance - no matter who asks you, no matter the circumstances, no matter that you might be injured and are under doctor's orders to stay off the floor for a while, no matter that you are tired or that you can't afford to go out again this week?

Are you using your dance to stroke your ego, as a substitute for intimacy, or because you get to feel power over others? Is your addiction threatening your relationship with your significant other, because you spend more time dancing with everyone else while your significant other waits on the sidelines (or at home) while you get your "fix?"

What if you can't stop buying fancy, expensive dance shoes for your dance, taking expensive private lessons, traveling the globe on credit cards to go to dance festivals and competitions, or keep buying all those expensive, specialty dance clothes?

When is your "addiction" to dance a real addiction and not something funny to joke about anymore?

Laura Riva explores this idea in her article, The Dark Side of Dance Addiction. She writes, " As wonderful as dance is, it’s either a hobby or profession. It can’t be a substitute for other parts of our lives. Dance is simply not everything."

Take a look at her post. She shares some great ideas.

Hope to see you out dancing (but not every night! LOL),
Grace (& Kevin)
