Dancing as a Cure for Anxiety.

Do you get anxious when you think of dancing? Is it worse when you think of partner dancing? What if I mess up? What if I step on his/her feet? What if, God forbid, I make us fall out there on the dance floor?!

Right?!

Anxiety in dancing - especially for new dancers - is a force to be reckoned with. It can keep people from dancing when they get to the event, even though they went to dance. It can ruin dance lessons, dates, dance classes, events. Anxiety, for some, is a very real - and powerful - force.

Even just the thought of that dance-floor anxiety can change people's minds, convincing them to stay home instead of going out like they had planned.

Take a look at Dennis Buckley's post on how dancing cured his anxiety. It's a good read, and may help you out if you are struggling with dance anxiety.

He writes that dance is "not the insurmountable fear that it once was. It’s just a skill, and like any skill, it can be learned. I know because I’ve done it, and the strategy I used can be applied to any skill you can think of. Until I took those lessons, I was fertilizing my fear with indecision and postponement. Once I took action, gradually moving from low risk to high, and applied the ‘playful practice’ mindset, the anxiety began to dissolve and the confidence began to grow..."

Hope to see you out dancing,
Grace & Kevin
